## What Is Link Equity?
Link equity (informally called "link juice") is the ranking value that a hyperlink passes from one page to another. When a high-authority page links to another page, it transfers some of its authority to the linked page. This concept is derived from Google's original PageRank algorithm, where each link acts as a vote of confidence.

## Why Link Equity Matters for SEO
Link equity is a **fundamental ranking factor**. Pages with more high-quality inbound links tend to rank higher. Internal links distribute equity throughout your site. 301 redirects preserve equity when URLs change. Nofollow links do not pass equity (or pass reduced equity).
